All tribal bodies united to fight against 3 bills

PROCEEDINGS OF THE JOINT MEETING OF HMAR INPUI, KUKI INNPI MANIPUR, MIZO PEOPLE CONVENTION, UNITED NAGA COUNCIL AND ZOMI COUNCIL AT MPC OFFICE, CHURACHANDPUR ON FRIDAY, MAY 13, 2016 AT 12:00 NOON

Realizing the importance of a threadbare discussion on the emerging scenario in the wake of the resolution adopted by the All Political Parties Meeting convened by the Chief Minister, Shri O. Ibobi Singh on May 9, 2016 to send an all-party delegation to New Delhi to urge the Union Government to give assent to the three contentious bills, a consultative meeting of tribal bodies representing all the tribes in the State was held at MPC office on Friday, May 13, 2016.

After protracted deliberation, the meeting adopted the following resolutions:

Resolution #1: The meeting of tribal leaders unanimously condemn the May 9, 2016 resolution adopted by the All Political Parties Meeting chaired by the Chief Minister, Shri O. Ibobi Singh.

The house also noted that the resolution passed by all political parties' meeting do not represent the will and sentiment of the tribal people.

Resolution #2: The meeting also unanimously endorsed the proposed 48-hour total shutdown called by the JAC Against Anti-Tribal Bills and resolved to make the shutdown a total success.

Resolution #3: Resolved that a Manipur-wide co-ordination committee be formed at the earliest to co-ordinate all the districts in the movement against the three anti-tribal bills and to strengthen the JAC.

The meeting also agreed that the Presidents of United Naga Council (UNC) and Kuki Innpi Manipur (KIM) will be the Convenor and Co-Convenor of the meeting to form the co-ordination committee which will work in consultation with the JAC.

Two representatives each from Hmar Inpui, Kuki Innpi Manipur, Mizo People Convention, United Naga Council and Zomi Council will form the new body.

Resolution #4: Resolved that a joint representation be submitted at the earliest to the President of India not to give his assent to the three anti-tribal bills.
